Authorities at the Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS) in Blantyre are investigating a shocking incident in which the body of a man was discovered in the ceiling of Mpingwe Hostel in a decomposed state .
The deceased has been identified by fellow students as Paul Mtenje, popularly known among his peers as “Pablo.” However, university authorities are yet to officially confirm the identity.
The remains were found in a decomposed state by maintenance workers who were conducting routine checks at the hostel, sending shock and disbelief across the campus community.
Preliminary reports indicate that a half-empty bottle of Malawi Gin was also found near the scene. Authorities have not yet established whether it has any connection to the circumstances surrounding the death.
At this stage, the cause of death remains unknown, while investigations are ongoing to determine how the body ended up in the ceiling structure of the hostel.
Students have been left shaken by the discovery, with speculation circulating on campus, while officials have urged restraint pending formal confirmation.
Efforts by Tiyeni Malawians to obtain comment from university authorities proved unsuccessful, as inquiries were repeatedly redirected without any official statement.
