The Malawi Women National Football Team the Scorchers has defeated Women Africa Cup of Nations defending champions Nigeria 3-2 in their group C opening match at Al Madina Stadium in Rabat Morocco last evening.
The match ended goalless in first half with both sides trying to find the opener. In second half Malawi scored three goals, a brace from Temwa Chawinga and another goal by captain Tabitha Chawinga as Nigeria scored two gaols one through a penalty.
This is the first time for the Maggie Chombo Sadick led team to participate in the Wafcon finals and their second game is against Egypt.
