Information reaching Cables suggests that former Minister of Information, Moses Kumkuyu, may be behind a coordinated campaign involving certain civil society organisations (CSOs) and journalists following the loss of a security services contract at the Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA).
This follows recent media reports claiming that MRA intends to award the security services contract to Master Security, a company reportedly linked to Minister of State Alfred Gangata.
Sources indicate that prior to this development, security services at MRA were provided by a company associated with Kumkuyu from 2021 until a few months ago, shortly after the change in government.
Observers note that the recent newspaper headlines and public statements by some CSOs calling for the cancellation of the contract appear to be driven less by concerns of justice or transparency and more by political rivalry and personal resentment.
Critics argue that Kumkuyu had expected his companies to continue providing security services at MRA, as was the case during his tenure in cabinet. They further point out that during the period when his companies were providing security services at MRA and other public institutions, there were no similar public objections or CSO statements raised.
Cables maintains that it is in possession of information regarding the financial benefits Kumkuyu allegedly derived from MRA security contracts during his time in office, details of which will be published in due course.
As public debate continues, commentators are urging restraint, fairness, and adherence to transparent procurement processes, emphasizing that business competition should be guided by merit rather than political influenc
