The Director of Administration and Human Resources at Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC), Justice Matonga, has told staff at the state broadcaster to either accept the current management appointed under the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) administration or leave their positions.
Matonga made the remarks during separate staff meetings held at MBC Area 4 Studios in Lilongwe on Thursday and Kaning’ina Studios in Mzuzu on Friday.
Addressing employees, Matonga responded to growing criticism of MBC management that has been circulating on various platforms, particularly on social media, following the recent change of government from the MCP to the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).
He noted that members of staff have frequently expressed dissatisfaction with the current leadership, often through forums such as Malawi Cables, and questioned why management had not been dismissed.
“Almost daily, you write about us on platforms like Malawi Cables and you are surprised that we are not fired. Just like you, we are going nowhere because we also need these jobs to support our families,” Matonga said.
Matonga further stated that the MCP-appointed management remains committed to supporting President Peter Mutharika’s leadership and his vision of transforming MBC into a more effective public broadcaster.
Director of News Rex Chikoko echoed Matonga’s sentiments, observing that some staff members have shown resistance to the current management team.
During his tenure, former President Lazarus Chakwera appointed the entire top management team at MBC, largely drawn from the Central Region. To date, all senior officials appointed during Chakwera’s administration remain in office.
