The Malawi Police Service has, over the past few days, intensified nationwide operations targeting illegal fuel trading activities. The coordinated crackdown is aimed at curbing the unlawful sale, storage, and distribution of fuel, which has been contributing to fuel shortages, unfair pricing, and safety risks in several parts of the country.
Authorities report that several suspects have already been arrested in multiple districts as part of the ongoing enforcement exercise. The affected districts include various urban and rural areas where illegal fuel vending has been on the rise.
Police say the operations will continue until all individuals involved in the illicit fuel trade are brought to book. The Service has further warned that anyone found engaging in such activities will face prosecution in accordance with Malawi’s petroleum regulations and other relevant laws.
In addition, the police have urged members of the public to refrain from purchasing fuel from unauthorized sources and to report any suspicious activities to law enforcement offices.
The crackdown is part of broader government efforts to stabilize the fuel supply chain, enhance public safety, and protect the economy from illegal market practices.
