The Mayor of Lilongwe, now finds himself at the centre of the very chaos he was entrusted to eliminate.
Allegations linking him to illegal constructions at Area 3 Market and other locations raise serious questions about his commitment to lawful urban management.
This is deeply troubling. The office of mayor demands moral authority, integrity, and the courage to enforce rules impartially.
When the city’s chief custodian of order is perceived to be undermining regulations, it erodes public trust, weakens institutional credibility, and emboldens lawlessness across the city.
Lilongwe deserves principled leadership—not double standards. If these allegations are substantiated, they point to a profound failure of leadership and governance. The City Council must act decisively to protect the integrity of the office and restore confidence in city administration. Lilongwe can, and must, do better.
