Some officials at the Ministry of Labour, Skills and Innovation are facilitating the recruitment of Malawians seeking job opportunities in Israel secretly and through political and informal channels.

We have identified individuals by the names of Catherine from Area 12, Stanley from Area 12, the Principal Secretary responsible for Foreign Labour, Munthali from Blantyre, and Katuwah from Blantyre as among those involved in coordinating or facilitating the process, which is not known to many Malawians but is accessible mainly to those connected to the ruling party, families and friends.
Our publication has it on authority that the Israel recruitment programme has already started, but the Ministry has deliberately failed to provide adequate public information on how ordinary Malawians can participate and benefit from it, as the process gives priority to party cadres and then their families, while Malawian youths continue to face unemployment.
According to our investigations, some prospective workers are being identified through constituencies with the involvement of Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Members of Parliament and ministers, raising concerns about transparency and equal access to the opportunities for Malawians who have no political connections.
The development has left people interested in travelling to Israel vulnerable to unscrupulous agents because the Ministry has not adequately published clear information on the official recruitment procedure, eligibility requirements, approved agencies and application channels.
“People should not give anyone money. They should first establish the official process and find out who is genuinely responsible for the recruitment,” one official from the Ministry warned desperate Malawian youths.
Cables understands that many Malawians are interested in employment opportunities in Israel and are increasingly seeking information on how to apply through legitimate channels.
The Ministry of Labour, Skills and Innovation is therefore being challenged to publicly clarify the Israel recruitment programme, including how candidates are selected, where applications are made, which agencies are authorised, whether MPs or ministers have any role in the process, and whether any fees are payable by applicants.
All Malawian youths deserve the same opportunities despite political , ethical and regional differences.
