Immigration officers have expressed concern and surprise over the manner in which the Deputy Minister of Homeland Security, Mr. Norman Chisale, is reportedly involving himself in their day-to-day operations.
The concerns follow internal findings related to allegations against an immigration officer identified as Jimmy, who had been accused of pocketing money from a passport application earlier today .
Investigations, however, reportedly established that the officer did not receive any such payment.
According to some officers who spoke to Cables, the situation has raised questions about adherence to established public service procedures.
“In the civil service, disciplinary matters are governed by clear guidelines and are expected to be handled internally through formal and structured channels.”Spoke one officer .
Officers further noted that the Department of Immigration has designated offices where clients can officially submit complaints and raise concerns.
Against this backdrop, Mr. Chisale’s reported visits to Immigration offices are viewed as unusual and potentially disruptive, as they may interfere with normal operations and create an atmosphere of uncertainty among staff.
There are growing concerns that such actions could undermine institutional processes and affect the professionalism expected within the public service.
Officers have emphasized the importance of respecting existing systems to ensure fairness, accountability, and efficiency in handling disciplinary matters.
