Our country, Malawi, is often described as a peaceful nation. But after recent three serious events reported by the cables in just one week we have ended , one must ask a serious question .
Are we truly a peace loving nation , or are we simply a nation of fools?
In the past week alone, we covered three serious cases involving foreign nationals and the apparent protection they continue to receive from the police, senior government officials, and other state agencies.
We have unearthed hidden incidents , with proof enough to warrant serious prosecutions that those in authorities don’t want Malawians to know while our country is being destroyed under our watch .
Let’s have a look of what cables uncovered between 25 May to 30 May , 2026.
- Illegal Mining by Russian Nationals In Chikwawa who were given bail At Midnight .
We reported that Russian nationals were arrested in Chikwawa for illegal mining activities. Yet, they were allegedly released in the middle of the night following instructions from powerful political figures. As usual, the case appears destined to disappear without accountability. The arresting officer and investigator can’t be traced . Let’s we forget . Just like that .

- Theft of Medical Supplies By Tanzania National worth over MK 200 million who was fined MK 1.6 million
We also reported on a Tanzanian national who was convicted in connection with the theft of medical supplies worth more than MK200 million from government hospitals.
Instead of serving a prison sentence, he paid a fine of just MK1.6 million and walked free. All thanks to Magistrate Kondowe, the learned man . Just like that.
Yet Malawians are struggling and dying to access medical supplies in our hospitals .

- The Secret Arrest and release of Shabbir Raidhan Managing the country’s largest Money Laundering Network
We further reported on Shabbir Raidhan and his wife, Amina, who are alleged to be at the center of a sophisticated money laundering network that externalizes more than MK5 billion every week.
Shabbir was reportedly arrested in secret and later released in secret. Meanwhile, the case filed in December 2025 has not moved an inch.
Think about the economic damage such activities inflict on our country.
Yet the matter appears to have quietly died.Just like that .

The question many Malawians should now ask themselves is simple:
“Are we peaceful citizens, or are we patriotic fools?”
It is not surprising that many international financial institutions are reluctant to lend Malawi money.
They can see what is happening. Their diplomatic language may conceal it, but their actions speak volumes.
They see a system where accountability is selective and justice is negotiable.
A nation cannot prosper when serious crimes are ignored, when influential individuals are protected, and when the rule of law is applied unevenly.
It is a poor Malawian who pays the high price for such . Millions of Malawians are struggling in all aspects of life , some are rotting in jail for minor offenses. Some can’t even afford the same drugs being stolen by foreign nationals, some can’t afford a meal with the high cost of living and peanuts of wages .
Yet those that are bringing our country down to its knees are walking free under the watch of the same leaders who were supposed to protect the interests of Malawians .
If this continues, Malawi risks becoming known not as a peaceful nation, but as a nation of sleeping fools.
