State President Arthur Peter Mutharika, has ordered that by the 30th of this month, at least half of the people who have applied for passports at immigration offices across the country should be assisted.
This development was announced by Norman Chisale, Deputy Minister responsible for Homeland Security.
Chisale made these remarks during his visit today to the immigration offices in Blantyre, where he was assessing the progress of passport processing.
Among other things, Chisale warned immigration staff to avoid corrupt practices, which some say are disrupting operations within the department.
He also urged anyone who is asked to pay money to immigration officers for assistance to report such incidents directly to his office.
