The Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace (CCJP) has commended President Professor Peter Mutharika for the progress made in reviving the economy, which it says was in poor condition when inherited from the previous Malawi Congress Party (MCP) administration.
The CCJP cited several achievements recorded under the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) administration during its first eight months in office, including a reduction in inflation, the availability of affordable maize on the market, and the downsizing of the number of principal secretaries and diplomats.
In a statement dated June 5, 2026, and signed by eight diocesan coordinators and the national coordinator, the CCJP said these measures demonstrate the government’s commitment to prudent resource management and efficient public service delivery.
The commission noted that the administration’s policy direction is helping to save much-needed public resources, which can be redirected toward improving essential services for Malawians.
