The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Fostino Mayele, has reportedly advised the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) to discontinue corruption charges against Chinese wildlife trafficking Mafia Lin Yun Hua. Cables can confidently reveal .

Cables within the ministry of justice have confided to this publication that all necessary arrangements have been finalized and that, within the next two weeks, an application is expected to be filed before the High Court seeking the formal withdrawal of the charges.

Lin Yun Hua, the Chinese Mafia was charged under the Corrupt Practices Act for allegedly attempting to bribe Justice Chipao with K50 million in exchange for a lenient outcome after being convicted of wildlife trafficking offences.

The Chinese national was subsequently sentenced to 14 years’ imprisonment with hard labour at Maula Prison.

However, he was later granted a presidential pardon by President Lazarus Chakwera, a decision that sparked widespread public debate.

Following his release, the ACB moved to pursue the separate corruption-related charges against him.

The reported decision to discontinue the case comes amid growing scrutiny of DPP Mayele, who has recently faced criticism over a series of high-profile case withdrawals and discontinuances.

Several of these decisions have attracted public interest, with questions being raised about the rationale behind them.

To date, authorities have not publicly disclosed the specific reasons for the discontinuance of a number of these cases, including the reported move regarding Lin.

Both the DPP’s office and the ACB refused to comment on the matter at the time of publication.
