The Second Vice President, Right Honourable Enock Kanzingeni-Chihana, is hosting investors and key stakeholders at the Mombela University construction site, as part of renewed efforts to revive and complete the long-stalled higher education project.
The stakeholders in attendance include representatives from banks, fund managers, captains of industry, and international investors from China, Egypt, South Africa, and Zimbabwe, reflecting strong regional and global interest in the project.
Following the site visit, the Vice President will convene a high-level consultative meeting with the investors, stakeholders, and a ministerial committee at Sandton Conference Hall in Mzimba District. The meeting is expected to address financing models, implementation timelines, and strategic partnerships aimed at accelerating construction.
President His Excellency Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika appointed Vice President Chihana to champion the completion of Mombela University, a project that has remained stalled since 2015, when the foundation stone was laid by the President.
This visit is significant as it signals the government’s renewed commitment to unlocking investment, restoring confidence among financiers, and ensuring the delivery of a critical national infrastructure project. The completion of Mombela University is expected to expand access to higher education, stimulate economic activity in the northern region, create jobs, and position Malawi as a competitive hub for skills development and innovation.
By personally engaging investors and stakeholders on-site, the Vice President is reinforcing accountability, mobilizing resources, and aligning public and private sector efforts to move the project from stagnation to implementation.
