Cables can confidently reveal that former MACRA Director General Daud Suleman has fled the country, reportedly traveling through Zambia and later South Africa, allegedly using an African Union passport.
According to information exclusively obtained by Cables, Suleman is accused of orchestrating a cyber intrusion on the eve of Malawi’s elections.
The allegations state that he abused his powers to use Global titles and exploited SS7 layer credentials linked to Airtel and TNM, which are reportedly held in MACRA’s custody, to interfere with the networks of the two mobile operators.
The alleged attack is said to have enabled the distribution of bulk political messages to Malawian subscribers, urging them to vote for President Lazarus Chakwera when campaign period was over and without prior authorizations from TNM and Airtel.
The messages were allegedly sent through Mobipay, a company said to be associated with Suleman.
If proven, the actions would constitute a serious breach of telecommunications regulations and electoral laws.
