It has come to the attention of Malawi Cables Online that the Acting Director of Human Resources and Administration at Blantyre Water Board, Lawrence Kadzitche, is allegedly attempting to manipulate and frustrate the forensic audit process that was formally instituted by the Board.
Three weeks ago, the Board, led by Chairman Stanley Chirwa, directed management to facilitate a transparent forensic audit by allowing members of staff to participate through suggestion boxes that were supposed to be placed at all workstations. However, as of 5 March 2026, nothing has been implemented regarding this directive. This blatant disregard of the Board’s instructions raises serious concerns and appears to be a calculated attempt to obstruct and frustrate the entire audit process meant to expose irregularities within the institution.
Evidence further suggests that Lawrence Kadzitche, who is widely known to be pro Malawi Congress Party (MCP), is at the centre of these actions. By deliberately delaying the implementation of the Board’s directive while aggressively pushing a controversial functional review exercise, he appears to be shifting employees’ attention away from the forensic audit.
Many stakeholders view this as a deliberate strategy to derail the audit and conceal past actions that could potentially implicate certain individuals.
Such behaviour undermines transparency, accountability and the authority of the Board itself. If these actions continue unchecked, they will not only compromise the integrity of the forensic audit but will also erode public trust in the operations of Blantyre Water Board.
The Board’s directive must be respected and implemented immediately, and any attempts to manipulate or frustrate the process must be confronted without fear or favour.
