The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) says its administration has managed to address some of the economic and social challenges it inherited from the previous Malawi Congress Party (MCP)-led government.

Speaking today during a DPP regional meeting in Mzuzu, DPP Secretary General Peter Mukhito said the government has made progress in addressing challenges that previously affected Malawians, including sugar shortages and difficulties in the education sector.

Mukhito pointed to the introduction of free secondary education as one of the key indicators of the government’s commitment to improving access to education and promoting national development.

He also called on DPP members in the Northern Region to maintain discipline, saying unity and discipline remain critical to strengthening the party and ensuring that it delivers on its commitments to Malawians.

Meanwhile, DPP Vice President for the Northern Region, Jappie Mhango, said the party has managed to stabilise the economy, arguing that Malawians are now in a better position to afford basic necessities.

The meeting was also attended by several senior party figures, including former DPP Vice President Christopher Mzomera Ngwira and former Cabinet Minister Francis Mphepo.
