Barely four months into his leadership, President Arthur Peter Mutharika has already begun delivering positive results for Malawians, particularly in the reduction of maize prices.

When President Mutharika assumed office, a 50kg bag of maize was selling at around MK100,000. Today, prices have dropped significantly to approximately MK37,000, representing a sharp decrease of over 60 percent since the September 16 elections.

Previously, many Malawians struggled to afford maize, a situation that forced some citizens to survive on chitedze due to the high cost of the country’s staple food. However, under President Mutharika’s leadership, deliberate measures have been put in place to ensure food security and make maize affordable for all citizens.

With additional maize imports coming in from Zambia, prospects remain promising. It is expected that maize prices could drop further to below MK30,000 per bag in the coming months.

President Mutharika has also taken bold steps to stabilize and improve the country’s economy since taking office, giving Malawians renewed hope that better days lie ahead.
