Goshen City has terminated its sponsorship agreement with the Film Association of Malawi (FAMA) following a dispute over an outstanding sponsorship balance, it has emerged.
Documents seen by this publication indicate that Goshen City, owned by Prophet Shepherd Bushiri, had pledged a total of MK100 million towards FAMA’s activities, including awards events and operational support. However, records show that only MK28 million was ultimately disbursed.
According to the sponsorship breakdown contained in official FAMA documentation signed by the association’s president, Dorothy Kingston, Goshen City contributed:
- MK28,000,000 in cash, and
- USD 5,170 paid towards an international actor’s costs
This contribution positioned Goshen City as Main Sponsor of the awards gala.
Sources familiar with the matter say that after the event, FAMA leadership formally engaged Goshen City to settle the outstanding balance of MK72 million, in line with the original sponsorship commitment. The reminder reportedly did not sit well with Goshen City’s leadership and subsequently led to the termination of the sponsorship contract.
The documents further confirm that despite being listed as the principal sponsor, Goshen City’s actual financial contribution fell significantly short of the pledged amount.
The sponsorship schedule also shows that other partners contributed either in cash or services, with amounts clearly stipulated—reinforcing FAMA’s position that Goshen City’s contribution was partial and below the agreed figure.
Neither Goshen City nor Prophet Shepherd Bushiri has issued an official public statement responding to the termination or the outstanding balance at the time of publication.
Efforts to obtain a comment from FAMA were ongoing.
