Malawi President Arthur Peter Mutharika on Friday met members of the Malawi Human Rights Commission (MHRC) as they prepare to conclude their terms of office this week.
Mutharika congratulated the commissioners for their service and contribution towards the promotion and protection of the rights of Malawians during their tenure.
In his remarks, the President reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring that the rights of all Malawians are protected, including children, women, the elderly and persons with disabilities.
“My Administration will continue to ensure that the rights of all Malawians, including children, women, the elderly and people living with disabilities, are fully protected,” said Mutharika.
He further called on all Malawians to play their part in promoting and defending human rights, stressing that violations against individuals affect society as a whole.
“I urge everyone to join me in this cause. A violation of the human rights of one person is a violation of the human rights of all of us,” he said.
The Malawi Human Rights Commission is mandated to promote and protect human rights and freedoms, investigate complaints of human rights violations and monitor the country’s compliance with human rights standards.
