
Mozambican authorities are reportedly searching for former Malawian diplomat during the Malawi Congress era Oscar Malili Masina over allegations of theft and obtaining money by false pretences.

According to information available to Cables, the matter arose after Masina received a recall letter earlier this year following the change of government in Malawi which so MCP losing power to Democratic Progressive Party candidate Arthur Peter Mutharika .
When the recall letter was received and before leaving Mozambique, Masina obtained a loan from Standard Bank Mozambique which he has failed to settle.
Masina first took a loan of $ 5,000 and went again to the bank for a top up.
The former diplomat is also accused to have accumulated unpaid rent amounting to about US$1,800 while living in a rented apartment in one of Maputo’s low-density residential areas.
Cables have spoken with the owner of the house Ms. Mariam Umarji on her number which is +2588430210** and she has confirmed of the matter .
Sources familiar with the matter claim that on the morning of 19 August 2026, Masina left the house without the knowledge of his landlord and travelled to South Africa, leaving behind some of his household belongings.
Information available indicates that Masina arrived in Malawi later the same day, on 19 August 2026.
The matter was subsequently reported to the Diplomatic Police and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Mozambique for action.
The case has also reportedly attracted the attention of Interpol, cables have it on authority that security agencies are jointly now trying to trace him and bring him to book .
