Malawi Vice President Jane Ansah has declared that she will remain a member of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) for the rest of her life, saying the party is the only one that resonates with her political goals and aspirations.

Speaking at her official residence in Lilongwe during a luncheon she hosted for people with albinism, dwarfism, disabilities and other vulnerable groups, Ansah said she studied the manifestos of three political parties before entering active politics and ultimately chose the DPP because of its principles.

Although she did not directly address the party’s internal politics, her remarks come amid reported divisions within the DPP, with some individuals allegedly questioning her suitability to succeed President Arthur Peter Mutharika on the grounds that she is relatively new to the party.

The retired Justice of Appeal entered active politics in 2024 after announcing her parliamentary ambitions and subsequently joining the DPP. She was later selected as Mutharika’s running mate in the 2025 presidential election, which the DPP won.

Meanwhile, Kobe Majoni of Kasungu, who has dwarfism, commended Ansah for organising the gathering and donating blankets, saying the initiative had provided an important platform for networking and bringing together people living with disabilities.

Ansah’s declaration is likely to further underline her long-term political commitment to the DPP as the party navigates its internal debates over leadership and succession.
