The Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development is expected to hold a press briefing this morning, Wednesday, August 12, to present findings from its pilot land ownership audit conducted in Lilongwe.
Minister of Lands, Housing and Urban Development Chimwemwe Chipungu will preside over the briefing, scheduled for 10:00 AM at the ministry’s offices in Lilongwe.
According to the invitation, the ministry launched the Land Ownership Audit exercise in February 2026 as part of efforts to strengthen land administration systems, promote accountability in land ownership, and enhance transparency and efficiency in the management of land resources.
The audit has reportedly uncovered irregularities in the allocation of plots in Lilongwe’s Areas 3 and 10.
Among those reportedly identified are politically exposed individuals, including serving and former ministers, judges and members of Parliament, who are alleged to have acquired plots without following the required procedures.
