Malawi’s Second Vice President Enock Chihana has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting cultural festivals and heritage associations as part of efforts to promote national unity, tourism and sustainable development.
Chihana represented Malawi President at the function when he made the remarks on Saturday in Mzimba during this year’s Umthetho Cultural Festival, held at the historic Hora Heritage Site under the theme “Mzimba United for Land Preservation and Sustainable Development.”
He described the annual festival as an important platform for celebrating and preserving Ngoni heritage while promoting unity and social cohesion among Malawians.
Chihana said cultural festivals play a significant role in preserving Malawi’s diverse traditions and heritage while creating opportunities to promote tourism and contribute to local economic development.
He further emphasised the importance of protecting cultural heritage and land for future generations, in line with this year’s theme.
The Umthetho Cultural Festival brought together traditional leaders, government officials, cultural enthusiasts and thousands of people from Malawi and neighbouring countries to celebrate Ngoni culture, traditions and history.
Chihana’s remarks reaffirm the government’s position that cultural institutions and heritage associations have an important role to play in strengthening national identity, unity and sustainable development.
