Seasoned journalist and Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) Director General Brian Banda has died after a short illness. Cables can confidently reveal.
Banda was a multitalented and award-winning journalist whose career spanned broadcasting, journalism, management and public service.
He previously served as Press Officer for former President Joyce Banda and later as Press Secretary to former President Lazarus Chakwera.
Before his appointment as Director General of the state broadcaster under President Arthur Peter Mutharika’s administration, Banda had returned to the Times Group, where he had spent a significant part of his career, including serving in managerial roles.
Banda rose to prominence through his work at Capital Radio, particularly on the popular Straight Talk programme. He also made a name for himself through programmes such as Times Exclusive and Kwangwanji, among others.
His appointment as MBC Director General marked another significant chapter in a distinguished career in Malawi’s media industry.
