
Tobacco Commission has launched Know Your Grower (KYG) project for tobacco growers in the country to strengthen Malawi’s tobacco competition on the international market.
In a press release the Commission said that tobacco grower are supposed to have they information registered to the Commission for this coming season of 2026/27 tobacco growing season.
The press release further indicated that the KYG will improve tobacco growers database to enhance the traceability of grown tobacco from farms to meet the international standards.
According to the statement registration for this exercise will start on 27th July 2026 with all club members and estate owners required to register for KYG before they are being licensed to grow tobacco for 2026/27 farming season.
KYG will be implemented in two phases and the first phase will involve the collection of growers person details, farm location, land size, household information and tobacco production data while the second phase will involve geo_tagging of farms and growers household by people appointed by the commission.
In the press release the Tobacco Commission say it clear that registration for KYG by Tobacco growers in the country is a mandatory for those willing to grow Tobacco for 2020/27 growing season.
