Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Secretary General, Richard Chimwendo Banda, who is a suspect in a murder case, has been committed to Maula Prison after being discharged from hospital this afternoon.
His lawyer, George Jivason Kadzipatike, confirmed in an interview that his client was discharged on the recommendation of medical doctors.
However, Kadzipatike said Chimwendo Banda is not yet fully fit, as doctors have scheduled another day for further medical treatment.
Chimwendo Banda has been receiving treatment at the hospital for the past two weeks after falling ill while in police custody.
He is currently awaiting a ruling on his bail application. Judge Mzonde Mvula indicated that the decision would be communicated on a date yet to be specified.
