A Malawian of Asian origin Suhel Shirajamed Gangat, 27, who is a teacher by profession has been arrested at Bakili Muluzi International Airport, formerly Chileka, for being found with forex without a permit.
According to the airport’s police spokesperson Dorrah Machila Chathyoka Gangat was found with R40 000 (about K4.8 million) at the time of his arrest.
“He was bound for South Africa when he had his two suitcases scanned. A further search physically found R40 000 concealed in a plastic bag by the suspect,” said Chathyoka.“
Asked about the supporting document, Gangat failed toproducerequireddocuments, leading to his arrest and seizure of the cash.
He has been charged with illegal possession of foreign currency and he is due to appear in court.”
