UTM President’s Advisor Arrested for Stealing Six Cars, Using Them as Collateral

Lingadzi Police in Lilongwe have arrested an advisor to UTM President Dalitso Kabambe, along with a woman, on suspicion of deceiving six individuals and stealing their vehicles to use as collateral for loans.

Lilongwe Police spokesperson Maria Kumwenda identified the suspects as Russel Golden, 46, and Emily Lungu, 24.

According to reports, Golden, an aide and advisor to Kabambe, has been borrowing vehicles, disabling their car-tracking systems—used by owners to monitor their locations—and transferring ownership and insurance details into his name or Lungu’s.

The pair is then alleged to have taken the vehicles to lending institutions, securing loans by offering the stolen cars as collateral. When vehicle owners contacted Golden to reclaim their property, he reportedly failed to respond.

Police have so far recovered all six vehicles, which are currently in their custody. Four of the vehicles have already been identified by their rightful owners.

Malawians have raised concerns about Kabambe’s integrity, arguing that the actions of his close aide reflect poorly on the kind of leader he might be if elected.

As of press time, UTM President Dalitso Kabambe did not respond to phone calls seeking his comment on the matter.
