The Phalombe District Council has dismissed President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera’s claim that 29 security staff houses have been completed in the district.
In his State of the Nation Address (SONA), Chakwera announced that the construction of these houses had been finalized. However, Phalombe District Council Chairperson Agason Sompho contradicted this statement, telling Zodiak Online that no such houses have been built in the past five years.
“We were only informed of the government’s intention to construct houses for security personnel, but to date, not even a foundation has been laid,” Sompho stated.
Phalombe Civil Society Organizations Network Chairperson Vincent Mkamanga also expressed disbelief. “The reality on the ground is that construction has not even started, despite repeated promises,” he said.
The contradiction raises concerns about the accuracy of government progress reports on infrastructure projects and accountability in public service delivery.
