The Minister of Energy and Mining, Jean Mathanga, has reassured Malawians that the country currently has adequate fuel supplies and there is no cause for panic.
Fuel Situation Update (April 2, 2026)
Current Fuel Reserves:
• Petrol: 798,000 litres
• Diesel: 1.9 million litres
Fuel in Transit (from ports):
• Petrol: Over 2 million litres
• Diesel: Over 1.8 million litres
Fuel Being Loaded at Ports:
• Petrol: 16,048,000 litres
• Diesel: 16,670,000 litres
Stock Coverage:
• Petrol: 17 days
• Diesel: 27 days
Dr. Mathanga emphasized that with current reserves, incoming shipments, and ongoing loading operations, Malawi’s fuel supply remains stable. He urged the public to remain calm and avoid panic buying, noting that supply systems are functioning and replenishment is continuous.
