Incoming Ruling Democratic Progressive Party Announces Commencement of Primary Elections in Eastern Region

The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has officially announced the start of its primary elections for Shadow Members of Parliament (MPs) and Ward Councillors in the Eastern Region, scheduled to begin on Saturday, April 12, 2025.

The notice, issued by Jean Mathanga, Director of Elections, outlines the key details of the electoral process, including the composition of the Electoral College and the roles of election officials.

Electoral College and Officials
The Electoral College for these primaries will consist of prominent party officials, including the Governor of the Area, the Chairperson of the Women’s Wing, and the Chairperson of the Youth Wing.

The Presiding Officers will be drawn from the DPP Professional Teams, led by National Governing Council Members in the Eastern Region. Local officials from the region, political districts, and constituencies are expected to provide full support to ensure a smooth election process.

Election Schedule
The primaries will be held across multiple districts in the Eastern Region, with specific dates and venues outlined as follows:

• Ntcheu District: Elections for MPs and Councillors will commence on April 12, 2025, covering constituencies such as North West, Bwanje, Central East, Central, Dzonzi Mvai, and Ulungwe. Venues include Muwalo School Ground, Kabekere Scottish Centre, and Mthumba School Ground, among others.

• Mangochi District: Scheduled for April 13, 2025, elections will take place in constituencies like North East, Malombe, South, and Mkungulu, with polling stations at Chimbende Primary School, Phase Two Namaswa Primary School, and Mangochi Stadium.

• Machinga District: Also set for April 13, 2025, the primaries will cover North East, Central, East, South, and Mikoko constituencies, with venues including Phase Two, Msambira Primary School, and Mzirankhandwe School Ground.

• Zomba District: Elections are slated for April 14, 2025, across constituencies such as Changalume, Mtonya, Likangala, Matiya, City South, Chikomwe, and Thondwe, with polling stations at Gala Football Ground, St. Peters Ground, and Sable Ground.

Call for Participation
The DPP has urged all its members and stakeholders to participate actively in the primaries, emphasizing the importance of a transparent and inclusive process. The detailed calendar, including specific wards and venues, has been made available to ensure accessibility for voters across the region.
