The Malawi Government has issued a firm rebuttal to circulating social media claims alleging that the First Vice President, Jane Mayemu Ansah, has been asked to resign by President Arthur Peter Mutharika.
In a press release from Capital Hill in Lilongwe, the Office of the President and Cabinet dismissed the reports as “false, baseless and deliberately misleading.” The statement emphasized that the claims are part of a broader attempt to misinform the public and undermine confidence in the current administration.
According to the government, there is no evidence whatsoever to support the allegations, which it says originated from unverified social media sources before being amplified by certain opposition figures. In particular, the widely shared claim that President Mutharika had instructed Vice President Ansah to step down was described as entirely unfounded.
The statement further reassured Malawians that the exercise of presidential authority is clearly defined and guided by the country’s constitutional framework. It noted that any official presidential decisions are formally documented and communicated through proper channels, not through informal or unverified reports circulating online.
The government urged the public to remain vigilant against misinformation and to rely on credible, official sources for accurate updates regarding national leadership and governance.
