The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Vice President for the Central Region, Honourable Alfred Gangata, is making waves in Malawi’s political landscape. A bold and courageous youth, AG is sending a strong message to young people across the country: ethical politics can win hearts, even in the opponent’s stronghold. He has also sent a powerful reminder that when young people are trusted, they can perform wonders and deliver beyond expectations.
AG has been on an aggressive political campaign in the central region, holding rallies in Mchinji, Dedza, Lilongwe, Kasungu, Salima, and is set to take his message to Nkhotakota tomorrow—leaving only Mtchisi on his list. His growing influence has reportedly sent shivers down the spine of the MCP leadership, to the extent that their politburo has been forced to meet and strategize on how to counter him. Intelligence reports from independent sources suggest that AG’s fearless presence is threatening MCP’s hold, especially among women and youth frustrated with the Chakwera administration.
In all his engagements, AG has been mobilising the youth and women to support the leadership of His Excellency Prof. Arthur Peter Mutharika and the DPP, stressing that Malawi needs a government that truly prioritises the welfare of its people. He speaks against poor governance, citing constant devaluation of the Kwacha, the skyrocketing prices of basic commodities, and the persecution of opposition voices as key issues under the current regime.
AG consistently urges people in the central region to assess President Chakwera based on his unfulfilled promises, not his regional background. “Real Malawi,” he says, “is what you experience daily—not what you see on TV.” When people can’t afford fertiliser, sugar, or salt at the market, that’s the true state of the nation, according to him. He has also warned against small cash handouts like K2,000 notes allegedly used to sway voters, calling it an insult to Malawians who want meaningful change and economic stability.
Popularly known as AG, Alfred Gangata is no stranger to the DPP, especially among the youth. He began his political journey with the party eight years ago, aiming for the position of National Youth Director in 2018. Though he attended the convention, the position had already been filled by Dyton Mussa through appointment. In 2024, AG returned to contest and successfully won the Vice President for Central Region post, solidifying his presence as a rising force in the party and region.
