MACRA Accused of Funding MCP Party Cloth Printing At Mapeto Amid Economic Crisis

Allegations have surfaced implicating the Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) in misusing public funds to purchase party cloth for the ruling Malawi Congress Party (MCP).

According to sources, MACRA officials requisitioned 500 meters of cloth for institutional purposes. However, only 250 meters were delivered, with the remaining half reportedly redirected for the production of MCP party cloth. Investigations suggest that Mapeto officials were instructed to use MACRA funds to print 250 meters of the party-branded material.

This revelation has triggered public outrage, particularly as Malawi faces severe economic challenges, including skyrocketing living costs and persistent fuel shortages. Critics argue that such alleged abuse of resources highlights a lack of accountability within government-affiliated institutions.

Insiders within MACRA have condemned the alleged misconduct, with reports indicating attempts by the Director General to obscure the incident through a second cloth requisition. This has been interpreted by some as an effort to cover up the misappropriation rather than addressing the issue transparently.

Given the gravity of these allegations, many are calling for an independent investigation to ensure accountability. In a time of widespread economic hardship, the public is demanding greater transparency and responsible stewardship of national resources.
