An interception vehicle has been identified, allegedly used by the outgoing government of Dr. Lazarus Chakwera to conduct illegal surveillance on Malawians. This vehicle is reportedly equipped with an IMSI catcher and interception tools, enabling it to track phone calls, SMS, and geolocations of political opponents.
The vehicle has three different license plates (MG, LL, and NS), and is often parked around Area 9 on Michiru Road, near the MTL tower, which is a critical point in Malawi’s telecommunications infrastructure. This strategic location allows access to a significant volume of communications data.
Additionally, three white vans have been observed circulating the city center, believed to be part of this surveillance operation. These vehicles are suspected of intercepting various forms of communication for political monitoring.
Apart from Malawians , the outgoing Malawi Congress Party government is also spying on diplomats and other foreign agencies officials .
