Judge Ken Manda Risks Being Impeached: How The Mighty Fall

Parliament will institute an inquiry into the conduct of Justice Ken Manda, following allegations of misconduct in his role as a High Court judge in the Commercial Division.

Peter Dimba, Chairperson of the Legal Affairs Committee, made the announcement during a press briefing at the Parliament building in Lilongwe.

He stated that the committee had convened earlier in the morning and agreed to intervene through its constitutional oversight mandate.

Dimba noted that this is the second time an issue concerning Justice Manda has been brought to Parliament’s attention, citing a previous matter involving a Gam Filling Station.

Parliament had previously rescinded its decision to impeach Justice Manda over the filling station controversy, leaving the matter to the Judiciary.

However, rather than facing disciplinary action, the judge was merely transferred to Blantyre, and no further action was taken.

In the upcoming inquiry, Dimba said all parties involved in the current case, which concerns Salima Sugar Company, will be subpoenaed, along with anyone else with unreported complaints against Justice Manda.
