A civil servant who has worked for 22 years under the contributory pension scheme recently had a rude awakening .
She approached Zamara to inquire about the benefits she would receive if she opted for early retirement on medical grounds, as she intends to use the funds for her treatment.
Cables understand that She was issued a statement indicating that she would receive 2 million kwacha.
Upon seeking clarification, Zamara Officials explained to her that from 2004 to date, the Pension Fund has only remitted 2 million kwacha to them on her behalf, and therefore they are unable to pay out more than what has been received.
As to where the money they have been deducting from her for the whole 22 years go, only Pension fund knows .
Zamara further indicated that this is not an isolated case.
Many individuals under the contributory pension scheme are reportedly affected, as significant portions of their contributions have not been remitted to Zamara.
Pension fund has come under spotlight for spending over MK 90 billion to buy a hotel when pensioners are failing to access their money .
There is need for a forensic audit at Pension fund and for the civil servants to keep checking with them how much the fund owes them as they might end losing their hard earned pension money.
