Global Financial institution World Bank has come out open and revealed that the budget deficit in Malawi under outgoing President Chakwera who is clueless about country’s economy is highest in Africa .

A clear sign that Malawi is heading in wrong direction despite Chakwera and his kinsmen trying to fool Malawian that the situation in the country is Ok .

Seasoned Journalist and career Diplomat who has worked with several regimes Kondwani Munthali wondered if at all outgoing President Chakwera knows what he is doing and the wrong direction the country has taken .

Writing on his Facebook wall , Munthali said ,

1. Kamuzu left a souring inflation, suspended donor support. Bakili Muluzi with his team sorted the economy and stabilised it within one year. With Aleke Banda as Finance Minister, the economy started to show signs of growth.
2. Bingu inherited a bad economy, again suspended aid support. Within 8 months stabilised the economy and started growing it. Goodall worked some magic.
3. Joyce Banda inherited a bad economy, she devalued the kwacha, but in six months things stabilised. The prices and recovery started and economic plan gave the country direction. She set Maxwell Mkwezalamba to help recovery after cashgate scandal.
4. APM inherited a suspended donor and IMF programme (due to the cashgate), he sustained the country without donor support for four years, cut expenditure including mantaining 20 cabinet ministers. The old Goodall did his magic again IMF returned.
5. Here we are under Lazarus Chakwera, we dont know where we are save that the kwacha has been plummeting everday, no discipline in expenditure, cancelled IMF programme- took four years to get back, now off track again. Inherited kwacha at K750 to dollar pushed to K2000.

The story that our economy is heading to Zimbabwe is everyday in the news, the question is what is being done to solve this economic disaster we have now faced for 3 years. Devaluation yosatha!
