The First Grade Magistrate Jonas Masula through a court sitting at Mponela in Dowa, has sentenced 33-year-old Maluwa Banda to 14 years imprisonment with hard labour for having sex with a 13-year-old girl.
According to Mponela Police Public Relations Officer Macpatson Msadala, State Prosecutor Inspector Modester Mwangosi told the court that Maluwa Banda committed the offence on September 14, 2026, at Chidothi Village.
Msadala said Banda threatened the victim against disclosing the incident but she later on informed her mother, who reported the matter to Mponela Police, leading to Banda’s arrest.
Banda denied the charge, but six witnesses proved the case beyond reasonable doubt for First Grade Magistrate Jonas Masula to subsequently convict and sentence him to 14 years imprisonment with hard labour.
