Blantyre City Mayor Isaac Jomo Osman has once again been captured on camera during an alleged physical confrontation, this time involving a man identified as Hassan Osman at a petrol station in Blantyre.
The incident reportedly occurred on Sunday evening at around 9pm at Yanakis Speedys Supermarket, located at a petrol station in the city.

CCTV footage seen by Cables appears to show the mayor physically confronting and assaulting Hassan Osman in full view of members of the public and, notably, in the presence of police officers.
Speaking to Cables, Hassan Osman said he had stopped at the premises simply to buy water and had parked his vehicle in the designated car park.
According to Hassan, the mayor approached him aggressively, shouting and swearing in Chichewa and accusing him of jumping the fuel queue. He said the mayor then prevented him from entering the shop before the confrontation turned physical.
“I was punched in the face with both his hands and forced over my car,” Hassan Osman told Cables.
He further said his vehicle had already been filled with fuel, making the accusation of jumping the queue difficult to understand.
Hassan has since reported the matter to the police and pressed assault charges against the mayor.
SECOND ASSAULT INCIDENT
The latest incident comes just months after Osman was captured on video during another physical confrontation.
In early May 2026, the mayor was filmed during a live broadcast on his own Facebook page physically and verbally confronting a woman who had been accused of buying stolen goods during an anti-crime operation.
The incident attracted condemnation from the Malawi Human Rights Commission, rights organisations and members of the public. Osman later apologised, acknowledging that his conduct fell short of the standards expected of a public official.
The Malawi Police Service has yet to issue a public statement on the latest alleged assault.
With Osman serving as mayor of Malawi’s commercial capital, his repeated alleged involvement in physical confrontations raises serious questions about leadership, accountability, respect for the rule of law and the conduct expected of public officials.
No matter the office one holds, allegations of assault must be taken seriously and no public official should be considered above the law.
