Chakwera Govt Stole EU’s MK 400 Billion Of M1 Road Rehabilitation
Disturbing revelations have been uncovered by Malawi Cables Online about how the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Transport and Public Works connived to swindle money meant for the M1 rehabilitation project in September 2025.
Our publication can reveal that the European Union (EU) released funds amounting to €96,000,000 (ninety-six million euros), equivalent to 400 billion kwacha on 28, August2025, but the money vanished on September 15, 2025, just a day before the general elections.
Meanwhile, the EU is reluctant to continue funding the project unless the stolen money is recovered and the culprits are brought to book.
