My Relationship With President Mutharika Is Cordial Despite Others Sidelining Me: VP Ansah

State Vice President Dr. Jane Mayemu Ansah has broken her silence over growing concerns that she is being sidelined within the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP)-led administration, saying some individuals are deliberately attempting to undermine her role in government.

Speaking to Zodiak Broadcasting Station (ZBS) today, Ansah said she is aware of the individuals behind what she described as efforts to frustrate her discharge of official duties, but maintained that she would not be discouraged by their actions.

Ansah, however, stressed that her relationship with President Arthur Peter Mutharika remains cordial, dismissing any suggestion that there is a personal breakdown between the two leaders.

“My relationship with President Mutharika is well,” Ansah said, while acknowledging that some individuals are making efforts to undermine her.

According to Ansah, the challenge she is facing does not originate from the President himself, but from individuals within the political and government establishment who, she said, are attempting to limit her effectiveness in carrying out her constitutional responsibilities.

The Vice President said she knows those involved in the alleged sidelining but indicated that she would remain focused on serving Malawians rather than being distracted by internal political manoeuvring.

Her remarks come amid growing public debate over the visibility and role of the Vice President in the Mutharika administration, with questions being raised about whether Ansah is being given sufficient space to perform her duties as the country’s elected Vice President.

Ansah became Vice President after serving as the DPP’s running mate to Mutharika in the 2025 presidential election. A former Justice of Appeal, she entered active politics ahead of the election and has since emerged as one of the most prominent figures within the governing party.

The latest comments are likely to intensify debate within the DPP over internal power dynamics, particularly as the party prepares to navigate its succession politics ahead of the next presidential election.

Despite the reported challenges, Ansah has previously maintained her loyalty to the DPP and President Mutharika, saying she remains committed to the party and its government.

Her latest statement therefore draws an important distinction between her relationship with President Mutharika and what she describes as actions by unnamed individuals seeking to undermine her position.
