President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika has called for stronger collaboration between government and the private sector, saying a close partnership is critical to Malawi’s economic development.
Mutharika made the remarks today at Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe following a meeting with the Malawi Confederation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (MCCCI).
The President said his administration values its relationship with the business community and stressed the need for continued engagement to address the country’s economic challenges and advance national development priorities.
He particularly highlighted areas requiring closer cooperation, including the response to the impact of El Niño, trade, investment and other key economic initiatives.
Mutharika said government and the private sector must work together to create an environment that supports businesses, strengthens trade and contributes to improved economic opportunities for Malawians.
MCCCI President Ronald Ngwira thanked President Mutharika for granting the chamber an opportunity to engage with him and reaffirmed the business community’s commitment to working with government.
Ngwira pledged the chamber’s support in responding to the effects of El Niño while also promoting trade, investment and broader economic growth.
The meeting comes as government seeks to deepen engagement with the private sector in addressing economic challenges and creating conditions conducive to sustainable growth.
