Malawi President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika has congratulated his Zambian counterpart, Hakainde Hichilema, following his re-election as President of the Republic of Zambia.
In a message issued on Saturday, August 22, Mutharika described Hichilema’s victory as a clear reflection of the confidence the people of Zambia have placed in his leadership and their trust in his vision for the country’s continued progress, peace and prosperity.
“His resounding victory is a clear reflection of the confidence the people of Zambia have placed in his leadership and their trust in the vision for Zambia’s continued progress, peace and prosperity,” Mutharika said.
The Malawi leader wished President Hichilema success as he begins his renewed mandate and expressed hope for stronger relations between Malawi and Zambia.
“We look forward to the strengthening of the bonds of friendship and cooperation between our two sisterly nations,” he said.
Hichilema secured a second five-year term after being declared the winner of Zambia’s August 13 general election, defeating his main challenger, Brian Mundubile.
