PRESIDENTIAL BODYGUARD CHISALE, FIRST LADY ALLEGEDLY SECURE 30 PRIME PLOTS IN LUMBADZI

A fresh storm is brewing over the allocation of prime land in Malawi following revelations that presidential bodyguard and Deputy Minister of Homeland Security Norman Chisale and First Lady Gertrude Mutharika allegedly acquired 15 plots each at the prestigious Airport Development Limited (ADL) Housing Scheme in Lumbadzi.

The two influential figures have secured a combined 30 prime residential plots in one of Lilongwe’s most sought-after developments, raising fresh concerns over transparency, fairness and equal access to public land.

According to information made available to Cables, the alleged allocations have triggered concern because thousands of ordinary Malawians who applied through the official process remain on waiting lists, hoping to secure even a single residential plot.

For many citizens, acquiring land has become a lengthy and frustrating process, often involving years of waiting with no certainty of success. The reported allocations have fuelled perceptions that those with political influence enjoy privileged access to opportunities that remain out of reach for ordinary applicants.

The ADL Housing Scheme was established as a planned residential development intended to make serviced plots available to the public. However, the reported allocations have reignited debate over whether the system is being administered fairly or whether politically connected individuals receive preferential treatment.

Sources further indicate that the plots allocated to the two influential figures are located adjacent to one another, creating what some observers describe as an exclusive cluster within the wider housing development.

As serviced land becomes increasingly scarce and expensive, many Malawians are asking one fundamental question:

How can two individuals allegedly secure 15 plots each while thousands of families continue to struggle to obtain just one piece of land to build a home?
