
Cables can confidently reveal that South African business mogul Zunaid Moti has been appointed Malawi’s Ambassador at Large.
According to documents in our possession, Moti will serve as Malawi’s Ambassador at Large for a period of five years.
“We are pleased to confirm your appointment as Ambassador at Large for the Republic of Malawi. This appointment is made under the authority of the President of Malawi and the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP),” reads part of the confidential document seen by Cables.
Among other key responsibilities, the agreement states that Mr. Moti and his associated companies shall include, but not be limited to: Promoting Malawi’s national interests both domestically and internationally. Facilitating resource mobilisation for key sectors, including: Road infrastructure development; Mining and petroleum industries, including mineral exploration and mining.
In addition , the agreement states that Moti will be trusted with Tourism promotion; and Healthcare system enhancement not forgetting development and maintaining strategic partnerships with stakeholders to advance Malawi’s development agenda.
Mr. Zunaid Moti first came into the spotlight earlier this year after donating MK4 billion to First Lady Gertrude Mutharika’s BEAM Trust.
He is also the businessman who has been chartering private jets for President Arthur Peter Mutharika during the President’s private visits to the Republic of South Africa.
Cables has also established that Moti has been granted 10 mining licences in Malawi.
